Over one thousand snow and ice complaints have been logged by the city's call centre this week.

But the city says the numbers of calls has been dropping.

Frustrated Calgarians have been battling tough road conditions since the latest cold snap hit.

The city's roads department says it is dealing with the situation appropriately.

But some people, including Ward 12 alderman Ric McIver are questioning whether the response could be done better.

McIver thinks the city should look at training employees from other departments to help plow roads and take some of the stress off roads workers.

The city points out that there has been more than three times as much snow in the last two weeks as in all of December last year.

Officials say McIver's idea has been tried before but was abandoned because the emergency replacements couldn't get enough practice to operate the big sanding trucks and other equipment safely.
