Fire crews have shut down a road downtown because of a building collapse.

Chucks of stucco on a building fell off the north side of a high-rise in the 100 block of 2 Avenue S.W. at around 4:30 p.m.

Emergency crews were concerned about a daycare on the main floor of the building and ordered the road closed.

Parents were taken in through a second entrance to pick up their children.

A building inspector has been out to the scene and a contractor is scheduled to address the problem on Tuesday.

The road will remain closed until the work is done.
