Safeway came out on top in CTV Calgary's price comparison of grocery items on Sunday, November 2nd, giving shoppers the best buying power for their money.
The price comparison was done by home economist Sylvia Kong as part of an ongoing series on price checks to be aired monthly on CTV.
Once a month, CTV will create a grocery list and compare prices at major Calgary stores.
The prices are a snapshot on the given day.
All coupons and membership programs are included and some chains vary prices from store to store.
CTV priced out 45 items at the McKenzie Safeway, South Trail Crossing Co-op, McKenzie Twone Sobeys, and South Trail Crossing Superstore.
The best deal was at Safeway, where the grocery basket cost $221.21.
The same goods bought at Superstore cost $222.62.
At Sobeys it cost $249.82.
And lastly, it was most expensive to shop at Co-op for the food basket, where it cost $256.56.
This week's best buys are:
- Beef Blade Roast - $5.91/kg at Superstore
- All Purpose Flour - 10 kg - $5.99 at Sobeys
- 1/2 Pint Raspberries - $2.99 at Safeway
