A northeast restaurant owner wants to know what the city is going to do about an abandoned construction site that is right next door.

The building that houses Sam Alain's restaurant is beside a hole that is half a block long and 2 stories deep.

Alain says that the collapsing walls are starting to pull the sidewalk away from his building,

There are also cracks in the walls that he says just appeared over the last few months.

The site was supposed to be a retail condo complex but the Los Angeles based company that was building the structure abandoned the project about a year ago.

The city has ordered the site fenced, but Alain says that is not going to solve the problem and that it's a big safety concern.

"Always fence collapse and the children playing at the playground here, safety is very important, first thing is safety plus my building is collapsing now," said Sam Alain owner of Da Sandra Cucina

Alderman John Marr says the city is preparing a report that will list options for dealing with abandon construction sties.

The city is also considering turning abandoned sites into temporary parkades.
