Video of a violent takedown during a Calgary Stampeders game has surfaced on an internet video site.

The video shows a Calgary police officer wading into the crowd and tackling a Saskatchewan Rough Riders fan during an ugly brawl at the game.

The fan reached for the officer while he was dealing with another rowdy fan and appears to be trying to grab the officer's gun belt.

The officer then turns and lunges at the fan, and both fall down several rows.

Police say the combination of young people and alcohol can be a dangerous mix.

"This particular game had a number of incidents similar to this, many of them presenting extreme danger to our members but also to the public," said Supt. Trevor Daroux.

McMahon Stadium officials say they had two hundred people working security for the game and a small number of fans are causing the problems.

But they say a ban on alcohol is unlikely to be considered because the team relies on sales for a big part of its bottom line.
