Thousands of soldiers attended a ramp ceremony Thursday at Kandahar Airfield for three Canadian soldiers killed in Afghanistan.

They were killed in an ambush Wednesday just weeks before their tour of duty was slated to end.

The caskets of 21-year old Private Chad Horn of Calgary, Corporal Andrew Grenon and Corporal Mike Seggie were carried to a waiting transport plane for their final journey home.

The three soldiers are members of the 2nd Battalion of the Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry of Shilo, Manitoba.

They were killed when an explosion rocked their armoured vehicle.

Military officials say it was not a roadside bomb, but an attack with a rarely used weapon Afghan insurgents are known to have.
