The issue of pesticides is back before council.

At least four alderman are in favour of a bylaw that would restrict the use of herbicides, insecticides, and fungicides on public land and private lawns by 2011.

Aldermen Brian Pincott, Druh Farrell, Joe Ceci, and Bob Hawkesworth are in favour of the idea.

But others say there aren't enough reasons for bring in the ban. Opponents point out that it will be difficult to enforce and would be devastating to lawn care businesses in the city.

Aldermen Linda Fox-Mellway, Gord Lowe, and Andre Chabot say the city shouldn't regulate how Calgarians manage weeds on their property.

The two sides will square off in a council debate Monday afternoon.
