Wicked weather tore through southern Alberta Sunday afternoon.
A number of CTV viewers called our newsroom after seeing a tornado touch down approximately 5 km north of Airdrie around 4:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon.
Airdrie resident Jana Bienz told CTV News she grabbed her camera when she saw some intense clouds building, "Then I saw what looked like a finger coming out of the clouds. The tornado touched down in a farmer's field. It kicked up dirt for about a minute then it went back up and headed east. There were cars on the road. They all stopped to wait for the tornado to go away."
Environment Canada has confirmed a tornado touched down in that area and then headed east towards Acme and Beiseker.
A Tornado warning was issued just before 5 p.m. for the M.D. of Rockyview, which includes Airdrie. Warnings are not issued until after a tornado occurs.
Meantime, a number of weather watches and warnings were issued for southern Alberta.
There have been no reports of injuries or damage from the tornado.
CTV News has a crew in the area where the tornado touched down and will have video of it happening on the news at 11:30 p.m.
