A liberal MP has apologized for creating trouble during his boss's visit to Calgary.

Garth Turner says he's sorry for making inflammatory comments about Albertans and Quebecers.

This all started with an entry Garth Turner made on his blog.

Turner is no stranger to controversy.

He used to be with the conservatives until they gave him the boot because they say he violated party confidentiality on his blog.

This week, on that same blog, Turner compared Albertans to "Greedy . . . separatist losers" in Quebec.

He said liberal leader Stephane Dion should be admired for having the guts to stand up to the oil patch on climate change.

Dion is here in Calgary for the Stampede and he's trying to sell his plan to introduce a carbon tax on greenhouse-gas emissions.

That plan has ruffled a lot of feathers here in Calgary and there are worries that it could really hurt Alberta's economy.

That's what Turner was referring to in his blog.

Dion says Turner should never have made those comments, "It's unacceptable, we don't discuss this way. He said he was sorry, he said what he had an obligation to after what he said."

Turner apologized to Dion with the following statement:

"My words were colourful for sure, if they offended people if this has moved into another domain or realm, if it's making your job more difficult going out talking to Albertans, I'm sorry and I probably shouldn't have done it. But you know what? I'm never going to apologize as a federal MP for taking on separatists. I don't care where they live."

Turner says he still stands by the intent of his comments.

Meantime, Dion is continuing to try to sell his plan to Albertans.

He'll be in Edmonton Saturday night.
