On September 9, 2010, CTV Calgary celebrated 50 years of serving Calgary and southern Alberta. For five decades, Calgarians have tuned into CTV Calgary for their news and entertainment.
CTV Calgary has the four most watched news programs in Calgary and southern Alberta including CTV News @ 6, CTV News @ 5, CTV News @ 5:30 and CTV Weekend News. Calgary's number one rated newscast is CTV News @ 6 anchored by Tara Nelson. With popular franchises such as Consumer Watch and Medical Watch, as well as having the SkyWatch Weather System, viewers clearly choose CTV News as their first choice. In addition, CTV News Calgary has been recognized multiple times by its editorial commitment both nationally (RTNDA) and internationally (Edward R. Murrow Awards) for Overall Excellence, Continuing Coverage, Investigative Reporting and Features.
Community involvement has been a central philosophy of the station since it first aired in 1960. CTV Calgary is proud to support and promote numerous charities and causes and was recognized by the Alberta's Promise organization for the station's commitment to children in Calgary and southern Alberta. The station sponsors a number of children's initiatives throughout the year including the Kids Cancer Care Foundation and the Calgary International Children's Festival.
An initiative that the station is extremely proud of is its Friends Helping Friends Program that includes an annual food drive and renovation project. Over the years the Friends Helping Friends Food Drive has become one of the Calgary's most recognized events and has raised over $1.4 million dollars since its inception for the Calgary Food Bank. The Friends Helping Friends Operation Renovation has become just as successful. Station volunteers have helped to renovate and refurbish a local hospice, the Calgary Women's Emergency Shelter and most recently an emergency nursery for families in crisis.
Committed as ever to excellence in news and programming, CTV Calgary endeavors to improve the quality of life in Calgary through community involvement and leave a lasting legacy within the Canadian broadcasting system.
